Reminder: You.
Spring. Early summer – the sun is coming out, the spring fashion with its bright, light textures and materials, freshness of the morning, and slow, steady warmth of the evening… always brings me in a different mood. If I ever forget who I am and what I want, this is the time to get reminded. I wish I wouldn’t need the sun and 26 affirmations to be in that mood all the time, but at least I have ways to create the space to feel like myself again when necessary. This blog is for everyone who sometimes struggles – just like me – with their self-vision and value in life. We all come from different backgrounds and have different experiences, yet many of us are bound by one common wish: to be deeply loved and respected for who we really are. Yet, sometimes, even we forget who we are, who we want to be, and all our secret, deepest desires... and instead of being in love with ourselves, instead of with all this, we obsess about other things or people. Let us get reminded of the most important thing - us - again together.
Wallpaper Vision Board.
There is something I do every month. I go on Pinterest and think about what vibe I want to embody this month. Sometimes, it is more color coordinated, more abstract, more quotes, then more pictures…I try to incorporate some of the same themes that also appear on my giant vision board (slash list in my case) of the big, more long-term goals, but I do it in different variations, depending on my mood and month of the year. I choose 18 pictures that I incorporated into a phone wallpaper collage with Canva. That is it. I look at it every day, and it represents everything I want to be, feel, and have, to be reminded of it at all times. Whenever I feel down, defeated, tired, or losing faith – I look at it and imagine already being there. This small recharge for the soul is what gets me through it!
Something that makes you feel like THAT person.
Whether this is a new outfit, going to the gym, learning something new, doing something creative, or having a beauty treatment, it must make you feel like the powerful DREAM version of yourself. Enjoy it and schedule time in your week to get into that mood. You are the star; you are the main character, and you are the center of your universe. I will go further and say that I think you should be a little obsessed with yourself. How we see ourselves relate is how the world sees us, and we should never forget about it. Be self-centered (as long as nobody is of harm, etc, obviously), and take care of yourself first. In my experience, it is also the thing that makes others respect you and your time. The only people who ever get bothered by that are the ones who want to do it yet feel they can’t or are insecure. Life is too short and too long, as I always say. Make sure you are doing good and make yourself a priority.
Detachment.
Adding to number 2 – I wish I had learned this long ago. Feeling obsessed with an outcome or a person is simply not getting us anywhere. I try hard not to expect anything anymore. What stays, stays, what goes, goes. I have written down a list of my non-negotiables. I remove myself from a situation when I realize that something or someone doesn’t fit in there. On this list are values, traits, wishes, goals, habits, and visions. I have some other, more detailed lists as well, but on the non-negotiable ones are some things written in stone and from which I will not budge. And trust me, it is so hard. It is hard when our hopes are up for that job or opportunity, our feelings start to form while dating a new person, and we find ourselves forgetting what we feel and want and base it solely on their wish list or that seemingly perfect outlook. But let us take a step back. What do YOU want? Is this as shiny as it seems? Did you do enough research? Did you have the time to evaluate? It is your life and yours only; why do we tend to forget that so easily…
Gaining back control over your investments.
And adding to number 3 – gain back control by looking at those lists and vision boards. Check your bank account, investments, and the bottom of your wardrobe, and assess what deserves to be there and what enriches your everyday life. Is there something that is taking more of your energy than it is giving back? Can we do something about it? Or is it connected to your mindset, and is this what requires work? Evaluate, evaluate, evaluate. Be strict. Dare to say no and mean it. Take control of your health, and make those doctor appointments. Make sure you make smart decisions and actively work towards your financial/material goals. It is time to do everything we set ourselves to do year after year, especially if we are consuming so much self-development content but never acting on it. As Mufasa says, it is time. We don’t have an unlimited amount of energy, but what we have is the power and control to delegate it.
Prayer.
This has to be Nr. 1 for me, but I realize that not everyone has a clear belief system, so this will stay my humble and personal suggestion. There is no feeling in the world that prayer through solid faith cannot soothe or even heal. Whenever I feel overwhelmed and scared, I turn to my faith. When I am feeling grateful and happy, I turn to my faith. I firmly believe that whatever comes at me in life – I can take it (in my case as a Christian), and God has my back. And if life got me down on my knees, it is because it was meant to. So many times in my life, I was shown that this is 100% true. The people I met, people I might have lost – all at the right time and for a reason. Things and opportunities I received and missed out on – brought me to where I am. It was perfectly orchestrated!! At the moment, I couldn’t see it. I didn’t believe it, but it turned out to be the very BEST for me and my development. We feel sad and disappointed and victimize ourselves (we all do this; I am the worst at it sometimes) because we lack faith. Perheaps it helps turning to your belief system and letting it support you through life as the beautiful, shining, stunning soul that you are.
